‘Studio Wednesdays’ – Learning technology drop-in sessions

A new offering from the eLearning Unit for UoL staff  – every Wednesday afternoon, 1:30pm -5pm (barring University closed days). Come along to our Studio space (third floor, 126 Mount Pleasant, please beware of our stroppy lift!) to discuss any aspect of learning technology which interests you. There’ll always be someone around who can offer a cup of tea and a sounding board for anything you would like to think through, try out or just discuss what is currently possible at the University, away from your usual office space. We can also offer advice on any aspect of using VITAL although if there is a group of you it will be better to contact us in advance to arrange a separate training session.

Having run an encouragingly busy trial of the drop-in Studio idea over the summer months we are confident that the Studio sessions offer people the opportunity to explore aspects of learning technology outside of the VLE ‘box’, as well as to provide that extra level of support and detail where a conventional workshop environment might only allow for an introduction in a more generic context. Some of the already hugely-varied topics that people have come to us with have included:

  • Tools for rapid electronic content creation – Xerte (available at UoL) and Articulate (not)
  • iPads for teaching
  • Learning design (using the LAMS application available at UoL)
  • Social networking sites
  • Using the VITAL set of tools for electronic submission of assignments

We’ve also learnt so much ourselves from all of the people who’ve dropped-in to see us and many thanks for all of your positive comments and interesting questions.

At the moment there’s no need to book in to a particular time for Studio Wednesday and we hope to be able to keep things this way. We would ask that you email (elearning@liv.ac.uk) or ‘phone us in advance if you are planning to drop in on a particular afternoon’s session, so that we can make sure that the best-suited person to discuss your particular area of interest is on hand and also to make sure we won’t have  a rush of people all at the same time.

We look forward to seeing you on a Wednesday afternoon soon.

Debbie, Tunde, Nick, Paul and Dan
