Communication and Media staff asked the eLearning Unit to run a workshop this week on using (Campus Pack) blogs and journals.
Staff in the department, with Pete Goddard as module leader, are about to launch a revamped Research Methods course this semester which will be co-taught by 8-9 staff members and postgraduate assistants.
To accommodate this teaching method, staff had to find an alternative to the traditional seminar, so they thought of incorporating a weekly exercise which asks students to complete a task to be submitted to VITAL, and which other students don’t see. Each week the relevant staff member will give general feedback to the whole class via a feedback blog, which will be visible to all the module’s students.
Afterwards, Communication and Media staff said they were ‘delighted’ with the workshop, which included a demonstration of how to set up journal templates and blogs, and ‘particularly impressed with the support, care and attention to detail’ that they received from the eLearning Unit.
