This fully-booked VITAL ‘focus’ workshop explored the many strategies available to staff for offering feedback to students through VITAL. A large part of the workshop was devoted to exploring the recently-available GradeMark tool, a paperless marking system accessed through the Turnitin service in VITAL.
For a good introduction on what you can do with GradeMark watch this Turnitin GradeMark training video.
In brief, GradeMark allows you to:
- Add comments anywhere on an electronic submission
- Build libraries of ready-made/frequently-used comments to speed up marking and offering feedback to students (these libaries can be shared)
- Create criteria marking score cards which automatically assign grades (these can also be shared between staff)
- Offer overall feedback on an electronic submission
The workshop also looked into offering feedback via the GradeCenter, through tests, through podcasts and other standard VITAL tools.
(As this workshop was oversubscribed and many more enquiries were made about when the next one would be run, the eLearning Unit plans to present this workshop again in the new year. Watch out for announcements on the poster system, via the Learning and Teaching Support module, check the EdDev booking page or follow us on Twitter!)
